The college is part of Egoli Squash for Inner City Schools, which is an affiliate of the Central Gauteng Squash Association. Phoenix College of Johannesburg participates in almost all activities organised by Egoli Squash under the auspices’ of Central Gauteng Squash. Activities include junior squash and senior squash, tournaments, festivals during public holidays, coaching clinics, girl child awareness campaigns, etc.

Phoenix College was awarded a trophy for being the best organised participant of all the Inner City Schools in 2019 due to the discipline, respect and punctuality at all training sessions, tournaments and other squash events.

The college has been able to provide players to participate at provincial level tournaments, for example Andile Ndiweni (junior player), Aaron Moyo (senior player), Nhlanhla Sibanda (senior player), Lungile Msibi (senior girl player), etc. One of our former squash students, Carlton Moyo pursued squash as a career and is now a qualified squash coach.

In 2020 due to the covid 19 pandemic, all squash activities were cancelled, resulting in cancellation of squash events for the whole year. This did not stop Central Gauteng Squash from playing an active role in assisting squash players who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Central Gauteng Squash was able to deliver food parcels and groceries to different inner city schools, including Phoenix College of Johannesburg. Caretaker coaches at the colleges or schools distributed the food parcels to squash players.
