To promote gender-parity, girls’ soccer was introduced at primary school level in 2019 in the Under 11 and 13 age-groups. This was an attempt to uplift the girl-child, to ensure that they also participate in previously male-dominated sports.

Interest was high as a sizeable number of girls joined and eagerly participated in training sessions.
The two teams went on to participate in the Johannesburg Inner City Cluster League tournaments. As a “first,” the girls acquitted themselves fairly well, though they did not win any trophies. We had hoped for improvement in their games in future, but the Covid 19 situation stalled their progress.
